On a sunny day, on the hills in Granåsen, Jan-Erik Aalbu met the male jumpers who were having a camp in preparation of the new season for the first time. The 60-year-old takes over from Clas Brede Bråthen, who resigned from the job when these same boys gotten into conflict with success coach Alexander Stöckl.

Jan-Erik has all the qualities we believe are necessary for us to succeed.

After several years of conflict, Bråthen resigned and head of the ski jumping committee, Stine Korsen, found in Jan-Erik Aalbu his successor. “Jan-Erik has all the qualities we believe are necessary for us to succeed. He has great expertise and broad experience in both sporting and commercial matters and was our clear first choice for the job as general manager,” she said on the website of the union.

Norway has every possible prerequisite to assert itself in the world elite and take gold in the World Cup on home soil.

Aalbu is ambitious and is set to lead the team towards the World Championship at home and the Olympics in Milan. He also wants to focus on the ski jumping community in Norway. “Norway has every possible prerequisite to assert itself in the world elite and take gold in the World Cup on home soil. But if we are to succeed, we must build a strong community, where athletes, the support apparatus, sponsors and Ski Norway play well with each other,” the new boss said.

Aalbu is set to meet the women’s side of the team next week during their camp on the World Championship hills.
